Artist Statement

At the beginning of this semester, one of my main goals had been to really dive into and develop a personal style for my art. Throughout the past few months, I had begun to feel immensely disconnected from my photography, not feeling any emotional attachment or appreciation for the photos I created, but instead extremely critical and self loathing. Throughout the course of this class, I am so happy that I've been able to experiment with more genres of photography outside of my usual work with portraits and familiarize myself with more avenues of self expression. I was even able to dabble with self-portraiture which I've never done before! I've been able to incorporate more narrative and storytelling techniques into my work this semester as well, which I've really enjoyed, and I will definitely be pulling these themes into my personal work moving forward :)

Bio

Hello! I'm Tang, and I'm a 3rd year English major minoring in Gender and Women's Studies. My photography mostly consists of portrait and editorial work, where I'm interested in capturing expressions of color, putting a visual to the different emotions and qualities I identify closely with, and working with the natural environment around me to create more authentic images. This is the second photography class I've taken in the Art Practice Department, and I'm so grateful to be a part of this website alongside other amazing and talented artists :3
